Ghana PILOT Program

We are very happy to announce that we are looking for a few Minnesota families to help us pilot our Ghana Program. If you have a pioneering spirit and are excited about the opportunity to be among the first to adopt from Ghana through LSS of Minnesota while paving the way for future families to adopt, we would like to talk with you! Please contact our Coordinator for more details.

About Ghana
Ghana is a beautiful, culturally rich, English speaking country. It also benefits from more than two decades of strong and peaceful leadership and a modest but consistently growing economy.

However, Ghanaians also face many difficulties - most Ghanaians live on less than $1 per day, healthcare is very limited in rural areas, and drought has caused many to lose their way of life - this has limited the number of extended family members traditionally able to care for children in difficult circumstances. Children may have been relinquished at birth or later in life, or taken into care due to neglect.

The Children of Ghana:
The children in need of families from Ghana are generally healthy toddlers and children up to age 14. More specifically, there is a great need for families open to sibling groups and children 5 years of age and older. This is not an infant program though some special needs infants may come into our care. Despite their difficult circumstances, they have an inspiring outlook on life.

LSSMN also works to support vulnerable children within Ghana to provide child welfare and education services to prevent child trafficking in port cities. Additionally, we are working to provide education funds to increase the number of midwives and nurses in areas lacking these professionals to assist in decreasing the maternal and infant morality rates.

Adoption Requirements:

  • Parents must be 25-50 years old and at least 21 years older than the child/ren they are adopting
  • Married couples only
  • Couples must be married a minimum of one year
  • Must expect to travel to Ghana for 2-4 weeks

Pilot Program Minimum Requirements:
  • Must meet above adoption requirements
  • Must be residents of Minnesota
  • Must be flexible and open to delays or changes
