Top 20 things to consider...

It is important that you start to thinking about what is important to you and how some of those things may need to change now that you are pregnant. You need to start to develop a plan for this pregnancy and the life of this child thereafter. Take your time to really think about the questions below. Possibly write down the answers in a notebook. Revisit these questions from time to time to see if your answers change as time goes by.

  1. What do I want to do with my life?
  2. What does my life look like 5 years from now if I parent this child?
  3. What does my life look like 5 years from now if I don’t parent this child?
  4. Am I ready to give up my freedom?
  5. Who is going to be there when I need help?
  6. Can I afford to raise a child?
  7. Is it fair to expect my parents or someone else to support my child and me?
  8. Do I get along with my family and do they support my decision?
  9. What if my child’s other parent isn’t involved?
  10. What if my child’s other parent starts a new relationship?
  11. How would I handle the stresses of being a single parent?
  12. How would parenting this child affect my educational goals?
  13. Do I enjoy spending a lot of time with children?
  14. Am I patient enough to deal with the caring (crying, feeding, cleaning) for a child 24 hours a day?
  15. Do I have a job?
  16. Do I have transportation?
  17. How would I discipline my child?
  18. What do I want for this child that I did not have growing up?
  19. What choices would help me achieve my life long goals?
  20. What about my education?
